Born and raised in Newport News, Melvin Melchor has always loved creating: sketching, building, problem solving, beatboxing and writing poetry. But sneakers and sports are his passion, leading him to pursue a career in the performance footwear industry.
The designer finished his bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design last year, by the North Carolina State University. In 2015, he took some courses in the London College of Fashion Summer School, namely, in Footwear Design, Shoemaking and CAD with Rhino.
Melvin Melchor is Teaching Assistant of the 2018 Design Intensive, organised by the Pacific Northwest College of Art and PENSOLE Footwear Design Academy.
His career started in 2016, as Footwear Design Intern at Hush Puppies, having worked as Student Designer at Under Armour Sponsored Project, as Footwear Designer at PENSOLE Nations Uplifted Showcase and at New Balance x PENSOLE Master Class, and as Teaching Assistant at the 2017 ASICS x Fueling the Future of Footwear PENSOLE Master Class.
Melvin Melchor was also recognised by the NC State University, with a Colin Guy Treiber Excellence in Design Award – for outstanding commitment to the highest standards in design – and NC State Art2Wear Featured Footwear Designer.
The asymmetry of METAMORPH gives personality to the sneaker. Designed by Daniel Gonçalves, it is ‘a prototype under construction’.
